Preparations Before Implant Treatment: A Step-by-Step Guide

The lifelong journey of a dental implant with the jawbone begins before the patient even sits in the chair. A successful treatment depends on the preparations made before surgery.

During the medical evaluation, it's important to fully share your health history and undergo digital planning using imaging methods like 3D tomography; chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart problems, as well as any medications being taken, must be disclosed to the dentist.

Lifestyle preparation includes cutting back on smoking and alcohol, maintaining regular oral hygiene, and eating a balanced diet. Smoking can reduce blood flow to the area and prevent the implant from properly fusing with the bone.

Preparing for the day of surgery depends on the type of anesthesia used: a light breakfast is fine for local anesthesia, while sedation requires 6-8 hours of fasting beforehand. Wearing comfortable clothing and taking any prophylactic medication recommended by the dentist is advised.

Preparing the home recovery environment matters too: stocking up on soft foods, having ice packs ready, and arranging for someone to accompany and drive the patient home after the procedure are all recommended.
