Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) Treatment in Ankara

The stress and fast pace of city life can lead to bruxism — unconsciously clenching or grinding the teeth. Many people aren't even aware of the habit; morning jaw pain, headaches, or tooth sensitivity are usually the first signs. Left untreated, bruxism can lead to cracked teeth, jaw joint disorders, and a squarer facial appearance over time.

Bruxism can happen unconsciously during sleep or during stressful moments while awake. Chronic stress and anxiety are the biggest triggers; improper bite alignment, genetic predisposition, excessive caffeine or alcohol intake, and certain medications can also increase clenching.

Symptoms include morning headaches, clicking sounds or locking in the jaw joint, worn and sensitive teeth, and masseter hypertrophy — an enlarged chewing muscle that gives the face a squarer, more angular look.

One of the fastest-acting treatments is Botox injected into the masseter muscle; this temporarily reduces the muscle's strength, preventing involuntary clenching without affecting speech or chewing, and can even give the face a more oval shape. The effect typically lasts 4–6 months.

Another option is a custom-fitted hard night guard (splint) made from 3D digital scans; it holds the jaw in an ideal position and prevents teeth from touching, stopping wear. If the clenching stems from a misaligned filling or bite issue, this is corrected through selective adjustment or orthodontic treatment.

After treatment, patients typically report waking up rested, no more jaw locking, less damage to teeth and restorations, and softer facial features. Since untreated bruxism can cause permanent joint damage, early intervention matters.
