Fillings for Gapped Front Teeth

Gaps between front teeth can cause both aesthetic concerns and, at times, functional issues. Thanks to innovative filling techniques in modern dentistry, this problem can be resolved with minimal intervention, resulting in a more confident smile.

The main causes of gapped teeth include genetic factors, misaligned tooth development, abnormalities in jaw structure, small teeth positioned irregularly within larger jawbones, and childhood habits such as thumb-sucking.

When applying a front-tooth filling, a filling material matching the tooth's color is first selected, the tooth surface is lightly roughened with a special acid, and the filling material is then applied to fill the gap and hardened with UV light before being shaped to match the tooth's natural form and polished.

A similar method, bonding, uses a resin-based material matched to the tooth's natural color; the surface is roughened, the material is shaped, and it is hardened with a UV lamp. This procedure is usually completed in a single visit lasting one to one and a half hours.

The durability of these fillings depends on the quality of the material used, the patient's habits, the application technique, and their oral care routine. Composite resin fillings typically last 5 to 7 years, while more durable materials can last over 10 years.

Good oral hygiene, regular check-ups, and balanced eating habits after treatment extend the lifespan of both fillings and bonding. The procedure is generally performed comfortably with minimal discomfort using modern anesthesia techniques.
