Porcelain Teeth - What Are They? How Are They Made?

Porcelain teeth are a crown treatment applied to teeth that need to be repaired for various reasons, and they can also be used after implants. The application involves three stages: preparing the crown site and taking impressions, manufacturing the tooth, and finally bonding it in place.

Because these crowns offer a durable and aesthetic solution, they are frequently chosen in treatment, giving patients an appearance and feel close to their natural teeth. The process is generally completed within a few weeks, depending on other details of the dental treatment.

There are different types of porcelain crowns: porcelain veneers, preferred for front teeth and applied by shaving down part of the tooth; full porcelain crowns, most commonly used to repair decayed or damaged teeth; and metal-supported porcelain crowns, which combine metal strength with porcelain aesthetics and are often preferred for bridge work.

The application process includes examination, treating and shaving down the existing tooth, taking impressions, manufacturing, and bonding. Since manufacturing can take about a week, a temporary crown may be used during this period; after the final crown is bonded, a follow-up check is performed.

Porcelain crowns applied with good craftsmanship, combined with careful patient care, can last up to 20 years. Regular brushing, flossing, and mouthwash use extend their lifespan, while avoiding hard foods and treating issues like teeth grinding (bruxism) help protect the crown.

The choice between porcelain and zirconia differs in price and performance, so it becomes clear after a dental examination. Dent Ümitköy Clinic offers crown treatments with its expert dental team and up-to-date technology.
