Root Canal Treatment

A treatment that saves an infected tooth from extraction by removing the inflamed pulp.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (endodontics) is performed when the blood vessel and nerve tissue (pulp) inside a tooth becomes inflamed or loses vitality due to deep decay, trauma or repeated fillings. The goal is to preserve the tooth's function without extracting it.

Severe pain that worsens at night, prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold, gum swelling or abscess, and darkening of the tooth are signs that root canal treatment may be needed. Early diagnosis makes treatment easier and prevents tooth loss.

During treatment, local anesthesia is applied, the infected pulp tissue is removed with specialized instruments, and the root canals are disinfected and filled with a biocompatible material. The procedure is usually completed in 1-2 sessions and is performed comfortably with modern techniques.

Because root-canal-treated teeth become more brittle, they are usually reinforced with a crown or veneer. A properly performed root canal treatment allows the tooth to be used without problems for many years.
